Robert Downey Jr.'s future as Iron Man addressed by Marvel Studios president

Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man met his demise on Avengers: End Game, and as heartbreaking as that was for Marvel fans it seems that was it, and although there were rumors about his return, Kevin Feige who is the head of Marvel Studios confirmed that he is not coming back.

Robert Downey Jr. will not return to the MCU

Robert Downey Jr.'s role as Iron Man was the battling ram with which the Marvel Cinematic Universe was launched and his participation in all of the movies up until the Infinity Saga, filled the movie theaters.

Now that the MCU has evolved into the Multiverse Saga, there was much speculation about whether or not the studio had something in mind to revive the character, however, after an interview with Kevin Feige, who is the head of the studio he confirmed that it was pure smoke.

Feige commented on the matter "We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again. We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way."

Feige is not the only one who made it clear that RDJ's role is over, Avengers director Joe Russo also confirmed that there is no reason why they would do that to the audience that already suffered through the character's death.

Russo explains, "We'd already said tearful goodbyes on the last day of shooting. Everybody had moved on emotionally. We promised him it would be the last time we made him do it -- ever."

Currently, the MCU is putting a lot of things together with new characters as most of the main heroes and villains that shared the screen with RDJ have also left the MCU, most recently Tom Hiddelston's Loki concluded Disney+'s series Loki, to set up the next two Avengers movies titled The Kang Dynasty which will premiere on 2026, and Secret Wars which is scheduled for 2027.
