Princes William and Harry Set to Receive Princess Dianas Royal Wedding Gown

It seems a bit of an odd bequest for a mother to offer her wedding gown to her sons in her will, but that is precisely what the late Princess Diana did. In the 17 years since her untimely and shocking death, the beautiful gown the former Princess wore on her wedding day to Prince Charles in 1981 has been in the hands of her brother, awaiting the day in which it could be passed down to her sons as her will notes.

On her wedding day in 1981, Princess Di donned a beautiful white taffeta and silk lace gown designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel. The gown features a famous train that is 25-feet in length and it has more than 10,000 pearls encrusted on the gown. For almost two decades the gown has been in the care of Diana’s brother Charles Spencer, but it will now be passed down to Princes William and Harry later this month. According to the late Diana’s will, the dress is to be presented to her sons after her youngest son, Harry, turns 30-years-old. He will turn 30 on September 15.

Speculation has it that the gown will be brought to London and put on display in one of the royal family’s many palaces. It’s been on display in Northampton since 1998 at Althorp, the museum at the estate of the Spencer family. William and Kate, as well as Harry, call Kensington Palace their official residence in London, and last year a collection of dresses that were worn by the royals was on display there for the public to see.

It’s speculated that Diana’s wedding dress might go on display in the same place so that it remains close to the Princes. While there is no official word as to whether or not the gown will be on display, it’s something that most royal watchers believe will be announced before too long.
