Joe Rogan is the latest high-profile figure to suggest, without any evidence, Conor McGregor could be using performance-enhancing drugs.
Or, as the popular US podcast host eloquently put it: "He looks like his piss would melt a USADA cup."
McGregor hasn’t fought since fracturing his tibia and fibula at UFC 264 last July. However, he is now fully healed and currently preparing for his eagerly anticipated comeback.
The 34-year-old has announced his intention to return at welterweight and has spent much of 2022 bulking up to compete with the likes of champion Leon Edwards, Kamaru Usman, and Jorge Masvidal.
McGregor looks huge right now. So huge in fact that his body transformation is being called into question by UFC fighters who suspect it is unnatural.
UFC light-heavyweight contender Anthony Smith, former interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje and his last opponent Dustin Poirier have all publicly suggested the Irishman is using steroids during his injury layoff.
This is partly because of his vastly growing physique but also due to the fact the former dual-weight UFC champion has exited the UFC’s drug testing programme and has not been tested at all in 2022.
McGregor says he exited the United States Anti-Doping [USADA] testing pool to focus on rehabilitation and will re-enter it in February before taking two drug tests and booking his next opponent.
However, USADA generally requires fighters re-entering the testing pool to undergo six months of drug tests before they compete, meaning McGregor’s return could be delayed.
But the UFC have now announced changes around retirement the USADA testing programme, so it remains to be seen how this will impact McGregor when he returns.
Rogan, who has worked for the UFC since 1997, recently commented on McGregor’s body transformation and absence from the USADA programme.
“He’s taking his shirt off and posing constantly, and he looks like his piss would melt that USADA cup," Rogan joked on his podcast.
"Like, it would just like burn a hole right through the bottom of that USADA cup,”
But McGregor wasn't the only person Rogan went after and he called out Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson for also taking performance-enhancing drugs.
The UFC commentator added that he believes McGregor has found a loophole that allows him to use illegal drugs without breaking any rules
“The weird thing is that there is a loophole in USADA that allows you to get out of the testing pool," the commentator added.
"You can get out of the testing pool and just juice up."
McGregor has since responded to Rogan who he recently mocked for pointing out that he landed an illegal knee on Khabib Nurmagomedov during their infamous UFC 229 fight in October 2018.
He tweeted, alongside two pictures of Rogan: "Joe looks like his piss melts his knickers, in the company that long and never took a fight hahaha UFC oh tae kwon do competition, call the cops hahahahaah."
